Black unemployment remains stubbornly high, at 13.1 percent in October 2013, more than double the rate for Whites. More investment in job-creating infrastructure projects could be one of the solutions, said the National Urban League’s president, Marc Morial, on NewsOne Now with Roland Martin. He called on Congress to pass a bill for such a program.
Morial also touted a proposed Urban Jobs Act, sponsored by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D, New York) and Rep. Chakah Fattah (D, Pennsylvania), which targets at-risk youth. Knocking the current thirst among right-wing lawmakers to slash spending, he said, ”The worst thing for Congress to do is to do nothing, and to continue this sort of appetite for cutting investments in people.”
